Now this is something I can get behind. Black metal from Nashville that is heavily informed by Nashville country, honky tonk, Appalachian folk, and American roots music. It shouldn’t work, but it does! There’s hot rod flat pickin over blast beats and it actually sounds cool as hell. Never in my life.. Cheers to you, Primeval Well, for creating a sound that is truly unique, and truly necessary for a southern punk country metal boi like me. I’m gonna have to pop on over to Tennessee for a show sometime.
Jason Isbell – Tiny Desk Concert
Full disclosure: I absolutely love Jason Isbell
Xasthur – A Misleading Reality
Xasthur was/is one of my favorite black metal bands. Just like everyone else, I was caught off guard when Scott put away the black metal and went acoustic. It’s growing on me though, and I like it more and more with every listen.
Ifang Bondi – Saraba
Speaking of haunting….
Benjamin Tod – A Heart Of Gold Is Hard To Find
I like Lost Dog a lot but Benjamin really raised the stakes with this album. Bare, haunting, memorable and truly special. These songs will follow you around for days.
Tomb Mold – Planetary Clairvoyance
Filthy. I’m real happy about all the quality death metal bubbling up lately
Broken Strings – S/T
A lost classic! Sunshiny beach boys damage. Good luck finding the album anywhere.
Obsequiae – The Palms of Sorrowed Kings
I’m back. But how long will it last?
This is some deliciously pristine medieval fantasy metal. Black metal that doesn’t feel black at all.
Dillinger Four – Versus God
I always liked this band a lot for some reason
Gabriel Faure – Piano Quartet No. 1
Those beautiful and quarrelsome nights
